Simple Principles for Good Nutrition

Members often asked me about nutrition, so I will try to keep the principles very simple without being overwhelming!

One way to make sure you're eating better is don't buy or keep any processed or unhealthy foods in your house. For me, no matter how much willpower there is, at some point, I'm gonna be out or low on good foods and I'll eat all the unhealthy foods I can find if they're in my house!

You also can't be perfect all the time! Which is why it's a good idea to have a few cheat meals - for me, I'll have one cheat meal during the week and one or two on the weekend. The biggest problem with cheat meals is people turn them into cheat days! Eating like shit for every meal in a whole day will set you back big time. But if you have a perfect day of eating then decide to have pizza at night that's not that big a deal! Especially if it's once in a while.

The other thing to focus on is eliminating added sugar from your diet. Pay attention to food labels and if you see the word "sugar" in the ingredients- or any of its hidden forms "sucalose, fructose, anything that rhymes with gross" don't buy it or find an alternative.

When planning meals, the main attraction should be the protein (meat, eggs, fish, etc) surround that with veggies, add in some fats (olives, olive oils, nuts, seeds, avocado) and you're good to go!

So let's recap:
1. Get rid of the junk food in the house
2. Eliminate sugar and processed foods from your diet.
3. All Meals should contain a protein (meat) vegetables, and fats!
4. Feel free to have a cheat meal once in a while, 2-3x per week but spaced out!
5. Enjoy your meals! Find healthy recipes that are easy to make and taste good too!
